We’re so pleased that Malaysia’s fashion industry has finally picked up the pace on trends. From eyelets to pastels, layering to drapery, here are some of our favourite trends seen at KLFW 2015.
Eyelets

Functional or not, one of the most memorable details this season were eyelets that were used either to fasten the garments or simply for decorative purposes. Not to sure if I love the repetitive eyelets that served no purpose, but all in all, this detailing is definitely on my watch list.
Pastels

Pastels made yet another comeback this year. By now I thought I’d be tired of the pastel palettes but to my surprise the designers this year used unique pastel shades and incorporated them into their collections carefully and seamlessly.
Pleats

I don’t believe that I could ever get bored of pleats. As repetitive as this trend may be, it’s all about application and when designers play with this technique in a sui generis manner, it instinctively grabs our attention and comes across as attractive rather than monotonous.
Sequins
Watch your moves with this one, designers. Sequins are a hit and miss in this industry. It’s crucial that the sequins are of the right quality and colour palette to avoid looking tacky rather than luxurious. Fortunately, most of the designers were careful when it came to implementing this risky trend.
Draped Valentino reds

Many may think that this red is too oriental. But I personally love this shade on my tanned skin. Keeping the silhouette straightforward and adding drapery to this bold and outstanding colour was a crafty move and if the wearer styles this right, they will most certainly have a look for the nines.
Layering

How can one possibly layer in Malaysian weather? Pick the right fabrics when layering – that’s how. Besides, when did fashion ever know its season anyway? Keeping it cool and breezy while integrating a clever and stylish approach is exactly what the designers delivered on the runway when presenting a variety of layered looks this year. Some of my personal favourite approaches were seen on Moto Guo, James Hock and Australian brand, Saveus.
