I admit it’s a bit of a no-brainer to name Jonathan Liang as a favourite at KLFW, but it has to be done. Occupying the prime time slot – 7pm on the last day – Jonathan Liang sent out a collection that started serious and then morphed into pink metallic ruffles. So many looks to love – the textured jacquard bralet over a crisp blue shirt, the floral parka over a metallic pleated skirt, the completely sheer gown with appliqued flowers sprinkled across the hem and shoulders. The winner was the final look, a flouncy, floaty dress encrusted with sequinned pansies that was so beautiful I was too busy looking at it to take a photo.

Incorporating Japanese and monk-inspired draping techniques, HIDE’s debut collection at KLFW was definitely a memorable one. With a contrasting colour palette of black against reds, eye-catching concrete slabs turned into accessories and unique looping techniques for the belts, there wasn’t a piece in this collection that I wouldn’t love to wear.

Amidst the monochromes, designer Kaer Kazami  used colours you wouldn’t normally expect in a menswear line: pastels. But he was able to maintain the masculinity of the pieces by keeping the hues faded and muted. I’m pretty sick of cut outs by now but he managed to give the trend a fresh spin and I love how easily the collection could work for women as well. Intended or not, this collection is completely gender neutral, making it wearable for all. The only thing left to say now is, shut up and take my money.

I sat in for this show by accident and I fell in love the minute his first look came strolling out. His workmanship was impeccable and I couldn’t take my eyes off all the voluminous, heavy neoprene, calf grazing circle skirts. His colour palette consisted of chic blacks, greys, greens, and whites with silhouettes that were fitted to emphasize the waist. Everything looked so classic with a modern twist, with his sleek necklines and use of fabrics and colours. Such a wonderful collection! I can’t wait to blow all my cash on an outfit from this designer.
